2013 Survey of Staffing (14-01)

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the launch of the 2013 Survey of Staffing (SOS) in January 2014. The survey covers all organizations under the Public Service Employment Act with 350 or more employees. Statistics Canada will begin sending out invitations to survey participants starting January 6, 2014. Statistics Canada has already contacted participating organizations regarding the employee contact information that will be used for the survey.

The SOS is an important tool for understanding employees’ perceptions of staffing and their awareness level of their legal rights and responsibilities regarding political activities. The information gathered is used to identify trends at the government-wide and organizational levels, and to inform improvements to staffing policies and practices and our collective efforts to safeguard non-partisanship within the public service.

Key survey findings will be reported in the PSC’s 2013-2014 Annual Report. As in the past, organizations will also have access to their key results on the PSC extranet site. This Web site allows you to consult more detailed survey information on your own or other organizations since 2008.

We thank you and your team for your co-operation and your continuing support in encouraging employees to participate in the survey.

Should you require further information or have any questions regarding the survey, please do not hesitate to contact me at 819-420-8808, or Ruth Martin, Acting Director General, Data Services and Analysis Directorate, at 819-420-8819.
